In the first instance, a student hailed a service taxi near Barbar
restaurant on Spears Street. The car was a compact, possibly older
model Peugeot, with leather interior and a red license plate. The
driver was around 60 with graying hair and there was a passenger in
the front seat around 40 years old with black hair and wearing clean,
formal attire. After taking an abrupt turn away from the victim's
destination, the passenger pulled a gun and demanded the student's
wallet. The robbers made off with his money, bank cards, mobile
phone, and backpack, although the student managed to escape the car
unharmed near Summer Land, in the Jnah area south of Beirut.
The second instance involved a faculty member who got into a
service taxi near Barbar restaurant in Hamra. The car was a black
Mercedes with a red license plate and again there was a passenger in
the front seat next to the driver. The driver was 40-50 years old,
with black and grey hair, and the man in the front seat was younger
with black curly hair. Similar to the other incident, the driver
veered away from the victim's destination and went on the airport
road, stopping under the first tunnel at Salim Salam where the
passenger pulled a gun and demanded money from the faculty member.
This time, the robbers got very little and the faculty member was
allowed to exit the car unharmed near the tunnel of Salim Salam in
Beirut.
