Zainab Kills Suicide! (http://morningwind.wordpress.com/2008/12/19/zainab-kills-suicide/)

Zainab stares at her grey image in the small mirror. The washroom is small and suffocating but it’s the only place she can be alone, away from her family in the small apartment. She doesn’t know why the voice inside her says, “kill yourself.” All she knows is it’s screaming at her, “what’s the point? Just end it!” She tries to quiet the voice but it’s too loud. She slowly falls to the floor and picks up the shiny knife she took from the kitchen drawer. Zainab feels its sharp teeth. As her soft teenage fingers run over the blade, the voice subsides momentarily. But it screams again when she removes them from the knife.
She slowly rolls up her left sleeve and begins cutting her wrist as if it was a cold cucumber. The deeper she cuts, the less pain she feels. The voice is now gone as she looks at the ruby red drops of blood oozing out of tiny wrist. Her eye lids slowly begin to droop. When she opens them again, she is lying in a hospital stretcher and overhears a nurse say, “Yeah, tried to kill herself again, wrists wouldn’t stop bleeding.”
We value our lives and would do anything to protect them. Sadly, this isn’t always the case for all the people with Bipolar. Many people affected with this mood disorder experience suicidal thoughts and 20% commit suicide.
Alhumdulillah, Zainab didn’t become part of that statistic. She only uses knives for cutting her food now. She has successfully killed suicide. She attributes her recovery from suicide to Allah and knows that it’s Allah who ultimately saves us all. And how did she kill suicide? It was all because of a simple sentence her beloved ustadh (teacher) said.
When she complained to him about the suicide thoughts and attempts, he simply said, “If you kill yourself, you go to hell.” Of course Zainab heard this rule before but it was the first time she allowed it to enter her heart. Her teacher didn’t dilute the rule. He said it plain and simple and that has made all the difference. Can you guess who the ustadh was? None other than brother Muhammad AlShareef, founder of DiscoverULife online lifecoaching.
It’s been over 2 years now since Zainab turned the simple rule suicide = hell into a conviction. And boy does she appreciate the value of a good word and the simple truth of Islam http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif She is indulging in the fresh breeze of recovery from Bipolar.
