Jewish settlers storm Al Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem on birthday of Muslim Prophet Mohammed

exclusive / Maisa Abu Ghazaleh – As the Israeli assault on Palestinians in Jerusalem reaches increasingly alarming levels of extremism, 30 Jewish settlers stormed Al Aqsa Mosque this morning.
The Israeli administration is demolishing, or overtaking for settlers, Palestinian homes in Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah, Shu’afat, Beit Hanina, and points between within East Jerusalem.
On Monday morning Jewish settlers dressed in civilian clothes, appearing to be tourists while carrying religious garb and tools for Jewish prayer in their bags, entered the Muslim holy site. They were preparing to perform religious rituals for Purim, the Jewish holiday that has the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and certainly the Gaza Strip, under lock-down.
A guard at Al Aqsa Mosque took notice and immediately informed Waqf (the Islamic ministry) officials. Police intervened and prevented the intruders from performing the act described as “humiliating” for Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims.
Today is the birthday of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed. There could not have been a more pointed day for the Israelis to attempt such an affront, reminiscent of the storming of Al Aqsa grounds by former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and dozens of soldiers in September 2000. That was the invasion that prompted Palestinians to heavily protest, with Israeli soldiers opening fire and killing several. It was then that the second Intifada began and why it is termed “the Al Aqsa Intifada.”
To add insult to injury, all morning today the occupying Israeli forces prevented Palestinians from reaching Al Aqsa Mosque to honor the celebration of the birth of the Islamic Prophet Mohammed.
Israeli soldiers harassed Palestinians, searched personal property, bodies and identification. Today’s assault was not only against young Palestinian men, which has become and unfortunate custom, but was also against families. They were not even allowed to bring food for their children into the mosque grounds for the full day event.
The takeover of East Jerusalem is increasingly alarming and cannot be underplayed.
