In Lebanon we are too remote from that Ideal model that the author is always advocating for. This does not mean that I do not appreciate the suggested idealism; I do, but what makes it not that real to me is that it can not be achieved in our country - at least in the short run. In Lebanon- especially at this critical stage- we are at the survival level, so it is too early to dream of jumping to the ideal level. What concerns teachers every year – not only this particular critical year- is how to end the school year safely, covering most of the material in an affordable way. That's why sometimes they have to make decisions of omitting some material or rescheduling the dates of final exams- even official exams. Having lived a considerable part of our lives in civil war, no year was a normal school-year. Many school-years did not go on in a safe way; and rarely had the curriculum been covered all during the school-years. Even after civil war and up to now, Lebanese schools are still subject to interruption by strikes and other erupting threats. Under this never-ending tension it is nearly impossible to apply the ideal model of teaching. An ideal model requires at least some stability and safety in order to be considered by all and in all aspects. Again I repeat Lebanese are now generally concerned about satisfying their basic needs, if not to say survival needs, so they are still behind looking for the ideal needs.
