Have you been grabbing stuff off the supermarket shelves, guided by whatever attracts the eye and whets the appetite? Pardon? So what! So you are ready to pay any price and eat anything? Not thinking about what impact you have on those who cannot afford to do what you do in your community. No worries - it just means that the poor afford less, which Islamically is not a problem; you wish!

On one of those rare occasions when the UN announces something that is in favor of something local, as recently the UN's Food and Agricultural Organization advised to cut food imports and buy local products to stimulate the local market and support your farmers.
Well, if your local economy is not going to well you might want to consider some of the following
:

• By buying local, you support your community and industries

- By keeping a local farmer in business

- By keeping a local business in business

• By reducing taxation on imported goods

• By increasing your digestion of imported foods that would have been "protected" by pesticides and chemicals to help the product sustain the journey

• By eating local, you help to sustain local supply of fresh produce.

By eating local, you help keep alive certain traditions, handicrafts, recipes, and something worth passing onto the children

•Traditions, handicrafts, and local recipes all have the capacity to not only keep the local industry going, but also to provide useful pastimes and means of employment for the children when they become adults.

• By doing all of the above, you help to rebuild a sense of community, where each person has a role.

• With less competition with factors external to one locality, there will be more emphasis on what can be grown locally, which is better for the biodiversity, development and future of your local community.
