The Graduate Record Examinations® (GRE®) General Test

It is a test that is needed in some universities if you want to apply for Graduate Study

I took it 24 years ago when I was applying for my Masters. I don't remember much but even if I did I don't think my information would still be relevant today.

If you have a specific question I may be able to help but in general, it wasn't that difficult.

How long ago did you graduate??i

I am a graduate of 2001

I'm quite certain that it has evolved since my time.

You may need to do some serious revisions before you take it to refresh your memory and update your information unless you've been working in the field of your studies and have been keeping up with new information, then it will be much easier

Yes, but the one I'm talking about is the general one
not the subject one

It only has an English section
and a Math - reasoning section

salam,
Sorry i never took the test, but just wanted to ask if you looked at the website
www.ets.org/gre (http://www.ets.org/gre)

it seems to have interisting information, and u can download a free practice book.
http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/GRE/pdf/gre%20practice%20general%20test.pdf (http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/GRE/pdf/gre%20practice%20general%20test.pdf )
I think it contains sample questions so you will be able to know the required level.

Thank you dear sister Samah for your help and concern
jazaki Allah khair

I surely viewed the website
:smile:and have downloaded some samples already

Lately I have contacted an "A" student who took the test 2 years ago, and she told me she found the English part so difficult..... there are words that you don't use in your daily life... not even do you come across them in your daily readings ...
The Math part is so easy, but it needs some conentration; one shouldn't be tricked by its simpilicity

Salam 3alaykoum,
I took the GRE in 2000 and I did the GMAT as well. GRE is simple and there are tricks to know when you are doing what we call it the English section.
This section is more reasoning than english in fact and it measures the ability to analyse some concepts and then apply certain logic to reach a conclusion. They want to measure the critical thinking ability which is basically:
* Identify the assumptions in the essay
* Isolate the conclusions based on these assumptions and the ones based on other facts
* Challenge the assumptions
* Render a new set of conclusions

There are a lot of books to help analyse the passages and train for the test. If you like, I can get you some or you can get them from Malik's
